The Medicine Buddha or the great healer is the master of remedies. According to the Tibetan tradition, the Buddha emanated as Bhaishajyaguru, thousands of years ago. He established the Tibetan medical tradition in the form of texts known as the Four Tantras of Secret Instructions on the Eight Branches of the Essence of Immortality, which are commonly referred to as Gyushi, The Four Medical Tantras. He holds in his right hand a sprig of arura, or chebulic myrobalan, from which much of Tibetan medicine is made. His hand faces outward symbolizing his bestowal of boons. In his left hand he holds a bowl containing three forms of ambrosia; the nectar that cures disease and resurrects the dead; the nectar that counteracts aging; and the supreme nectar that illuminates the mind and increases knowledge. The Medicine Buddha's throne is supported by snow lions and flanked by dragons. If you pray to the Medicine Buddha, he will bless you with the medicines which will cure your disease and protect you from all the ailments that afflict you.
The Medicine Buddha represents an extremely powerful form of enlightened energy. The practices of Medicine Buddha are efficacious in healing and helping one to accomplish one’s goals successfully and can be of benefit to someone who is ill or who has died
