Tara is the mother of all the Buddhas and she has multiple emanations. The one who perches in the centre of the anthers of a lotus with its petals fully blown holding a lotus in her left hand and her right hand stretched outward in a gesture in a bestowing boon is the White Tara or the Goddess of compassion. She is a saviouress, supreme protectress, bestower of long life, fulfiller of earthly desire and the mother of all Buddhas. Her color is white as the moon and as clear as a clear crystal gem and radiates an uncompromising light of purity. In her palms as well as on the soles of her feet are the eyes of transcendent wisdom symbolizing that all her activities are conducted with omniscient awareness. The inverted eye at the center of her forehead indicates her enlightened vision. If you pray to her, she will bless you with longevity of your life, remove your diseases, sins, obscurations, and protect from your untimely death. She is a symbol of truth, complete and undifferentiated and if you remind yourself of her compassion, you will also become selfless and compassionate like her showering our planet with pure love. If we see through to Tara's essence, she frees us from self-serving thoughts and encourages us to act selflessly and wisely for the benefit of all beings.
