Water Offering cup

New product

A set is composed of seven bowls corresponding to the 7 qualities described by Buddha which developed, would allow us to attain enlightenment.
These bowls offerings are intended to receive water but as we can see, these bowls could be filled with various offerings.
But why water in offering in the first bowl?
As we know, making offerings is an integral part of Buddhism, it's about opening your heart, showing humility and generosity with no hope of receiving anything in return. This Offering is an act of faith designed to deprive oneself of our egoism, avarice or greed.
The offering is a renunciation. Thus a meditator can symbolically offer the totality of his goods to the community, as this generosity is accompanied by the happiness of having helped the other.
Also, one of the reasons for choosing water as an offering is its abundance in Tibet as in all the Himalayas. Water is ubiquitous. It's free.
So to give water does not cause any feeling, no pain, no mourning of the loss of the object or possession. So the spiritual message is to say that we should give all our offerings as freely as if we would give water.
The second bowl of offeringwill be filled with water too, but this time it will symbolize bathing or bathing the Buddhas. Not that they are dirty, but to purify the body, symbolizing the cleansing of our body which is subject to negative and above all very vulnerable thoughts. Ultimately, offering water will dissolve the dark and negative thoughts that interfere with meditation, which at the same time blocks the understanding of the Dharma.
The third bowl of offering will be filled with flowers or natural petals but they may be silk. The symbolism is not addressed to the Buddha but rather to all the enlightened, to embellish their environment.
The 4th bowl of offeringwill be the offering of incense. Not that Buddha or Bodhisattvas are accompanied by bad smells, but to clean up the place and surround themselves with a pleasant smell conducive to meditation.
The 5th bowl of offering will be the offering of the perfume. The perfume will act as the purifier of negative aspects, such as ignorance, attachment.
The 6th bowl   is intended for the food offering, it is placed rice or various foods. It is a matter of temporarily relieving the sufferings linked to hunger by an abundant supply of foods. Thus the body can concentrate on meditation and at the same time feed it.
The 7th bowl will be the offering to the music, we can deposit a small instrument such as a bell.
How to place the bowls with offerings on an altar?
Your bowls of offerings will be left one by one, from left to right, on your altar facing the deity.
The distance between each end of the bowls will be the thickness of a grain of barley (5mm)
You can place a butter lamp between the 3rd and 4th bowl or between the 4th and 5th. This lamp will symbolize the Light of Wisdom dispelling ignorance and obscurantism.
Some recite mantras (prayers) during the offering.
These mantras are:
- Om mani padme hung
- Om equipped with maha munaye soha (mantra for Shakyamuni Buddha)
- Om tare tuttare ture soha (mantra for Tara)
The most important thing in the offering will be your sincerity to open you, to give you, to let go, to free you.
When should I renew my offerings?
Normally, the offering bowls are changed every day before sunset. In Tibet this corresponds to 15:00, but you can do it anytime.
Empty your bowls of offerings one by one, starting from right to left this time, then clean these bowls with a clean cloth. The water can be emptied into the pot of a houseplant for example. Then once cleaned, you will return the bowls until the next offerings, the next morning.
In our western regions, it is admitted taking into account the constraints of our societies not to make daily offerings. They may be spaced a week apart from the water that will be renewed every day.
